We all know none of us can do this work of meeting the needs of our American Indian students alone. We all need community, especially during these trying times when we can’t gather in person like we used to. This will be a safe, virtual space to make connections, share our knowledge and experiences, encourage and support one another, and celebrate our successes together. An important focus of this community of practice will be to address issues of equity, social justice, cultural identity, and cultural responsiveness. Each month we will focus on a different topic and hear from special guests. Time for questions, reflection, and discussion will be made a priority.
This month’s topic is team-based leadership, which is one of the 7 Essential Components of MTSS. Our special guest is Superintendent Mike Tatsy of Heart Butte School District. The team-based leadership happening at Heart Butte is exciting, and just a portion of all their inspiring work to provide an effective learning environment with the integration of Amskapi Pikuni culture! It is an honor to have him join us for this inaugural gathering and to start us off in a good way.
