How do we get concepts to “stick” in students’ minds? Following a few guidelines, teachers can make complex ideas “sticky,” using the SUCCESs© principles from Chip and Dan Heath’s book Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die. Simple, Unexpected, Concrete, Credible, Emotions, Stories. During this course, we will examine some samples and then apply the principles to our own content areas. We will also learn about story-telling techniques from the book Springboard (no purchase necessary). You may read the book Made to Stick ahead of time or skim it during class; during designated times.
