Short and Smart: Mobile video storytelling

Shooting high quality video on your iPhone or Android can be daunting, but it’s easy once you learn the basics of sequencing, interviewing and capturing high quality sound. Digital journalist Val Hoeppner will cover the principles of filming, editing and publishing compelling videos with only your smartphone. The first half of the workshop will focus on telling video stories in 60-90 seconds. The second half will focus on hands-on exercises in shooting and editing mobile video, so you can hit the ground running at the end of the day.

This is the second day of a two-day workshop series on mobile media July 17 & 18, 2019. Sign up for both workshops and get a 20% discount using coupon code *20percentoff* at checkout.

Audio Storytelling and Podcasting

Over the course of five days, NPR Story Lab senior producer Michael May will guide participants through reporting, editing and mixing an audio feature. The workshop will cover interviewing and gathering sound, writing and editing a script, and cutting and mixing audio. We will also discuss what makes a podcast successful, and participants will create a blueprint for planning, producing and marketing their own podcast. No experience necessary.
