SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:This course is designed to support elementary teachers in teaching science in (and outside of) their classrooms. It’s no secret that elementary school teachers are pulled in MANY different directions. Fitting science lessons into an already packed schedule is nearly impossible. GTCC standards require that elementary teachers are responsible for relatively rigorous science content at EVERY grade level\, yet many elementary teachers have little\, if any\, background in science! \nIn this workshop we will help elementary teachers become confident as science teachers\, and help them find ways to fit science into their curriculum through cross-curricular activities and projects. We will help teachers find projects that are both engaging for students and tick multiple boxes in terms of the subject matter they incorporate. We’ll help teachers see their schoolyards as extended classrooms. We’ll also cover life and earth science content to be taught in grades K-5 so that participants become comfortable with what they are teaching! Because we are educational experts from Montana Outdoor Science School\, we will do all of this while also using a variety of fun\, outdoor settings to model hands-on learning for participants of our workshop so they can take it back to the classroom and schoolyard! \n\nDate:Wednesday-Thursday\, June 26-27\, 2024\n8:30 AM – 5:00 PM daily (1 hour lunch break)\nLocation: Fish Wildlife and Parks Classroom\, 4600 Giant Springs Rd\, Great Falls\, MT 59405\nCost: $45-$110\nRegistration:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HAOBW21esZExgCA62zN3WItvy381DTc2sLIrCMLIICY/edit?usp=sharing [docs.google.com]\nContact: Alyssa Cliver\, alyssac@gtccmt.org

SUMMARY:Embrace Humanity. Bridge the Gap: Tangible Solutions for Educators in an AI World
DESCRIPTION:Perhaps the greatest reason we entered this profession was to work with and encourage people. Yet\, that is what we spend the least amount of time doing. With the continued evolution and advancement of technology\, the explosion of AI\, and the increasing number of behaviors and at-risk students – educators are struggling to connect with colleagues\, students\, parents and community members\, even ourselves. \nThis two-day workshop works through all that. \nDay 1 embraces the humanity of education. We will wrestle with the gaps that divide teachers from their students\, curriculum\, and community and gather tangible resources that can help build unity between parents and teachers\, reignite our passion for teaching\, and encourage our hearts as educators\, parents\, and spouses. We will reconnect with the humanity of education. \nDay 2 addresses the invasion of Artificial Intelligence and the technology gaps that divide us. In this session\, we will discover how AI\, paired with a renewed focus on traditional skills\, can transform communication\, streamline planning\, enhance lessons\, and revolutionize how work is done in schools. Participants will leave with strategies for communicating with families\, identifying needs\, and developing targeted and personalized responses. We will explore the ethical responsibilities schools have to embrace AI\, while protecting the fundamental aspects of education\, community\, and the human spirit. \nAs educators\, we need to get back to the humanity of education\, while also directly and purposefully addressing and planning for AI. We believe quality educators can do both\, and we look forward to sharing and working with you. \n\nDate:Wednesday-Thursday\, June 19-20\, 2024\n8:30 AM – 5:00 PM daily (1 hour lunch break)\nLocation: North Middle School – 2601 8th St NE\, Great Falls\, MT\nCosts: $45/$110\nRegistration:https://docs.google.com/document/d/11eZZYEwH0lO3Bgep91DOPpgkBLmwnNWldmndaLsGr9E/edit?usp=sharing [docs.google.com]\nContact: Alyssa Cliver\, alyssac@gtccmt.org\n\n

SUMMARY:Pines\, Sarna\, Statfeld Summer Institute for the Museum Teacher Fellowship Program
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Attending the Arthur and Rochelle Belfer National Conference for Educators\, the Museum’s foundational teacher education program\, is a prerequisite for the Fellowship application. \nThe Museum’s teacher training programs ensure that learning how and why the Holocaust happened is an essential component of education in America and strengthens students’ critical thinking about their roles in society. \nAbout the Program\nEstablished in 1996\, the Museum Teacher Fellowship Program has developed a national corps of skilled educators to help lead the Museum’s efforts to ensure quality Holocaust education in secondary schools. Over 430 teachers have become a part of the corps\, working to serve as conduits to the Museum for educators\, institutions\, professional organizations\, and community groups in their regions and assisting the Museum in educational outreach and resource creation. \nMost years\, the Museum selects up to 15 educators—from grades 7 through community college—as new Museum Teacher Fellows. These educators must show evidence of knowledge of Holocaust history\, successful teaching experience\, and participation in community and professional organizations. \nFellows participate in the Pines\, Sarna\, Statfeld Summer Institute for the Museum Teacher Fellowship Program held at the Museum in Washington\, DC. This institute is designed to immerse Fellows in advanced historical and pedagogical issues. Following the institute\, they organize and implement a professional development event for educators in their schools\, communities\, or professional organizations that highlights Museum resources. In July of the following year\, they attend a follow-up program at the Museum to continue their study of the Holocaust with Museum staff and noted speakers. Travel expenses are covered\, and teachers receive an honorarium for their work during the fellowship year. \n  \nOPI Renewal Unit Provider \nApplications for the 2023 Museum Teacher Fellowship class open on October 15\, 2022.

SUMMARY:Inclusive Education for all: K-12 Accommodations and Modifications
DESCRIPTION:More often students are coming to school with a variety of different academic\, behavioral\, and emotional challenges. Many students have IEPs and 504s to address these issues\, but several do not and struggle in the general education classroom. In some instances\, students are bored; having already mastered content presented to them in their class.\nWith teachers’ busy schedules\, optimal collaboration is not always possible to know how to best accommodate the disparate needs of all learners. \nJoin one former English teacher and current special educator as she covers several easy\, high-leverage practices that will help you modify learning across myriad contexts. Specific takeaways include accommodations and modifications to direct instruction\, response methods\, grading\, content\, process and product\, addressing social/emotional and behavioral concerns\, and extensions for advanced/gifted learners. \nLearn more and register for the event by clicking this link.

SUMMARY:MAKE MATH FUN & EASY – For Your Students AND For You
DESCRIPTION:Think about something you learned thoroughly when you were a student and it\, undoubtedly\, was likely learned in a setting that was fun and engaging. The research is clear\, students remember best and more permanently those skills or concepts that are acquired in a fun and engaging setting. One of the key aspects of this course is that the games\, activities and strategies you will learn take less preparation time and less planning time than the more traditional paper and pencil driven methods of teaching. Rediscover the deep understanding and mastery of skills that come from learning Math through games and hands-on activities. \nLearn more about the event and register by clicking this link.

SUMMARY:Right Brain Wonders: Reach ALL Students & Change Lives
DESCRIPTION:Finally\, you will be able to reach those students that you have never been able to reach before. These are the students that you just can’t determine why learning is so difficult for them. This class will help you understand learners that have an IEP or a learning label\, as well as those who work harder than they should have to. Much like stroke patients undergoing PT\, I will teach you midline exercises that forge new pathways in the brain\, strengthen eye muscles and balance\, and train photographic memory. These strategies can easily be implemented in any classroom. \nI have seen great success with dyslexic\, dysgraphia\, and students labeled with dyscalculia. This can be life-changing for these students! I will give you tools and strategies to help reach not only these students\, but all students in your classroom. I will show you ways to make teaching easier! This class is not about adding more to your plate\, but instead it will show you ways to teach the educational concepts in a more beneficial manner\, supporting the learners that struggle the most. If you have taken one of my classes before\, this class will be a review\, but also will go more in-depth. You will receive a manual\, and therefore I will walk you through it and teach you the crossing midline exercises! Our neediest students need our most qualified personnel and that is you! \nClick this link to learn more and to register for the event.

SUMMARY:Time to Teach Classroom Management Train the Trainer
DESCRIPTION:Classroom Management Train The Trainer Training Improve Scores\, Reduce Referrals\, And Increase Teacher Job Satisfaction. Research ranks classroom management as the most important variable to building and sustaining school success. Our staff development training offers the most powerful classroom management strategies available anywhere. How much would student achievement increase if students were on task 5\, 10\, or even 20 hours more each week? Educators realize that we are losing precious instruction time to pesky low-level discipline challenges. We all must realize that academics and discipline go hand in hand. An educator can be the best content instructor on campus but without the ability to control the classroom\, the best lessons will remain undelivered. What could be accomplished if student discipline challenges decreased 70% or more? If you want to increase student achievement\, you must first put a system in place for discipline that empowers your teachers to improve behaviors of students in the classroom. You can provide your staff with world-class training on classroom management to help you achieve these goals. Is teacher job satisfaction and less stress important to the success of your school system? This training will help your staff gain back that lost teaching time with research based\, proven strategies that minimize or eliminates 70 – 90% of low-level\, chronic behaviors. Is teacher turnover a concern? Classroom management was rated as the most important variable to building and sustaining a high achieving classroom. Classroom management “or lack of” is also the number one reason why educators are leaving the profession. Our application based strategies and techniques provide your teachers with the support and tools they need for success. Supports PBIS\, RTI\, PLC’s and other fine programs. Let us help you transform your school or district! \nVisit the event website for more information or to register to attend.

SUMMARY:Four O'Clock and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:The Golden Triangle Curriculum Cooperative (GTCC) is offering this event as part of their 2021 Summer Institute. \nIt has been proven by research that the most effective way to encourage student growth is by having an effective teacher in the classroom! But\, what components make an effective teacher? Teachers need time to reflect\, unplug\, relax\, and explore so that they can be the best versions of themselves in their classroom and at home. The balancing act between the classroom and life at home is a constant challenge. As teachers and administrators leave the field of education in droves\, how can we reignite the passion for education and find peace and balance in our professional and personal lives? \nThis course will focus on reflection\, connecting with others\, learning new ways to incorporate mindfulness into classrooms\, and encouraging educators to find balance so they can be restored to do the MOST important work. While adventuring outside\, participants will work through a mindfulness journal of their own to explore and reaffirm balance in their own lives and how they can continue to build on that balance during the school year. Fresh air is good for the soul\, so this course will take place completely OUTSIDE and will provide an opportunity for educators to connect with others. This course also will highlight ideas and techniques to incorporate mindfulness in classrooms. \nA general schedule is as follows however\, completing the full hike is NOT a requirement. We are emphasizing relaxation\, exploring\, and the power of FRESH AIR. Day 1- Hike the Windy Peak loop in the HighWoods\nDay 2- Sluice Boxes State Park (break out those Chacos) \nVisit the GTCC website for more information about this event and the 2021 Summer Institute course offerings.
