SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:This course is designed to support elementary teachers in teaching science in (and outside of) their classrooms. It’s no secret that elementary school teachers are pulled in MANY different directions. Fitting science lessons into an already packed schedule is nearly impossible. GTCC standards require that elementary teachers are responsible for relatively rigorous science content at EVERY grade level\, yet many elementary teachers have little\, if any\, background in science! \nIn this workshop we will help elementary teachers become confident as science teachers\, and help them find ways to fit science into their curriculum through cross-curricular activities and projects. We will help teachers find projects that are both engaging for students and tick multiple boxes in terms of the subject matter they incorporate. We’ll help teachers see their schoolyards as extended classrooms. We’ll also cover life and earth science content to be taught in grades K-5 so that participants become comfortable with what they are teaching! Because we are educational experts from Montana Outdoor Science School\, we will do all of this while also using a variety of fun\, outdoor settings to model hands-on learning for participants of our workshop so they can take it back to the classroom and schoolyard! \n\nDate:Wednesday-Thursday\, June 26-27\, 2024\n8:30 AM – 5:00 PM daily (1 hour lunch break)\nLocation: Fish Wildlife and Parks Classroom\, 4600 Giant Springs Rd\, Great Falls\, MT 59405\nCost: $45-$110\nRegistration:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HAOBW21esZExgCA62zN3WItvy381DTc2sLIrCMLIICY/edit?usp=sharing [docs.google.com]\nContact: Alyssa Cliver\, alyssac@gtccmt.org
