Writing Poetry: A Response to the Call of Daily Life // Mark Gibbons // Poetry provides a home for everybody. We’ll study poems that demonstrate a variety of voices, techniques, forms, and tones, discuss how they work, and then draft our own, exploring how poetry can respond to the richness of everyday life.
1 pm to 3 pm
Family Secrets: Writing Against Your Inner Silencer // Caroline Patterson // Fiction provides us a veil where we can often tell the larger truths. To do so, we have to break through our own inner silencer: that internalized voice that says you should not say this. In this workshop, we will write a short scene exploring the family dynamics around that secret.
Writing Your Own Obituary // Robert Lee // This class is life-affirming. It is our chance to reflect on the adventures and accomplishments of our lives, to work on a timeline of significant events, and to think about the stories we want to be remembered by. By penning our own obituary, we will dwell not on death but on lives well-lived.
