“Missoula’s First Resident Grizzly Family Gets in Trouble Quick” read the headlines of the Missoulian in the Fall of 2021. Bears and bear activity have been a significant issue in Missoula for years now, but there is a new sense of importance now that grizzlies have established themselves in the North Hills and, therefore, as members of our community. James Jonkel, (Bear Management Specialist with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks – Region 2), will discuss some of the historic grizzly activity in the area, what we should know about our new neighbors, and, most importantly at this juncture, what we should do to coexist with them.
