A South African Musical Safari

Join us as we explore diverse music from different regions of South Africa! An emphasis will be placed on the understanding of cultural, social organization of music, the variety of musical sound, and historical contexts. Materials in this course are designed to be used in the general music classroom and will include traditional songs, folk songs, struggle songs, dance, and folklore. Kodály and Orff teaching methods will be incorporated and usable comprehensive lesson plans and resource materials will be provided. A bonus will feature Nyunga Nyunga Mbira traditional, folk, and contemporary music from South Africa’s neighbor, Zimbabwe! Music experience is not necessary!
